Dog-Friendly Things to Do in Gosport, Hampshire
Gosport is one of those places that quietly grows on you. With sea air, more history you can shake a stick at, and plenty of open space, it’s a lovely spot to explore on foot. Even better, it’s a great place to get out and about with your dog once you know where to go.
Whether you’re planning a casual afternoon wander, a weekend outing, or just fancy a change from your usual walking route, here are some of my tips on places to enjoy with your dog around Gosport.
Dog-Friendly Places to Eat
Because every good walk deserves a good pit stop, right?
Finding somewhere that welcomes your pooch can turn a simple walk into a proper outing. These spots are popular with local dog owners and easy to slot into a day out.
The Boathouse, Gosport Marina
Set right on the marina, The Boathouse is ideal if you like a relaxed atmosphere and a good view. Dogs are welcome outside, making it a natural stop after a stroll around the marina or along the waterfront.
It’s a great place to sit back and watch the boats come and go while enjoying a coffee or lunch. There’s usually plenty happening, which makes it feel lively without being hectic, and it’s easy to linger longer than planned. Especially if the sun’s out and there’s beer and a bowl of chips on the go.

Bayside Cabin, Stokes Bay
Bayside Cabin is another favourite with locals. With a large outdoor seating area and lovely coastal views, it’s the perfect casual spot after a beach walk or a longer stroll along the shoreline - even if you’re covered in sand!
It’s informal and welcoming, with staff used to seeing dogs settle at their owners’ feet while people enjoy breakfast, brunch, or a light lunch. You can take your time soaking up the view, enjoying the fresh sea air, and letting your dog take in all the beachy sniffs.

Dog-Friendly Things to Do
If you’re looking to add a bit of variety to your routine, Gosport has some great options that give you and your dog something a little different to enjoy together.
Priddy’s Hard Heritage Site
Priddy’s Hard is a fascinating spot with a real sense of history. Originally a naval armaments depot, it’s full of old buildings, wharves, and waterfront paths that give you a glimpse into Gosport’s maritime past. Walking around what remains, you can almost imagine the hustle and bustle of the dockyards in years gone by.
Dogs are welcome on leads, and the open spaces make it easy to explore at a relaxed pace. Whether you’re interested in history or just fancy somewhere a little different to wander with your dog, it’s a great spot to spend some time soaking up the scenery and atmosphere, and imagining life together on the high seas.

Harbour Ferry Ride to Portsmouth
Take a mini adventure without even leaving town by hopping on the Gosport‑to‑Portsmouth passenger ferry. Dogs are welcome on board, and the short trip across the harbour is full of new sights, sounds, and smells. Seeing things from the water gives you a whole new perspective on the town, and it’s a fun change of pace on a nice day.
And your Brucey Bonus is that once you arrive in Portsmouth, you’re right by Gunwharf Quays shopping outlet for some dog-welcome retail therapy. Even if you just wander along the waterfront and enjoy the views of the Spinnaker Tower before hopping back on the ferry, it feels like a proper day out for both you and your dog.

Dog-Friendly Walks
Sometimes you want something quick and easy. Other days you want space, views and a proper wander. Gosport offers both.
Gilkicker Fort
Gilkicker Fort is a brilliant spot if you’re after a shorter walk that still feels interesting. While the historic fort itself is currently being converted into homes, it gives the area some undeniable character. The surrounding paths and beach provide a mix of surfaces for paws to enjoy and lots of open views. It’s perfect for a morning or afternoon wander when you want to get out of the house without committing to a long ramble.
There’s lots to see and sniff along the way, from boats in the harbour to seabirds along the shoreline. If you fancy a coffee afterwards, you can head into the marina area nearby and soak up a little more of the waterside atmosphere.

Burrow Island
For a longer, more expansive walk, Burrow Island at low tide is hard to beat. The area feels wild and open, with plenty of space to explore along the coastline. It’s a great choice if you’re after a proper leg-stretching, wind-whipped walk with different scenery and plenty to take in.
The route has a quiet, peaceful feel, so it’s easy to slow down and enjoy the surroundings. Take your time wandering the paths, admire the views across the water, and enjoy a sense of escape without needing to go far from home. But don’t forget to pack some snacks for the road!
