How to have a stress-free Christmas with your dog
🐾 'Tis the season to be furry and festive! 🎄
Dogs can find this time of year stressful, especially if the household changes significantly. So, as a dog lover and proud business owner, I want to share some paws-itively fantastic tips to make this Christmas the best one yet for your dog.
✨ 1. Cosy Canine Corner: Create a snug space for your dog with a warm blanket and their favourite toys. It's their safe haven amidst the hustle and bustle of holiday festivities.
✨ 2. Tail-Wagging Treats: Whip up some homemade dog treats with love. There are plenty of dog-friendly recipes out there for delicious, safe snacks. Bonus: It's a fun activity for the whole family!
✨ 3. Toxic-Free Tidings: Be cautious with holiday decorations, plants, and foods. Some can be harmful to our furry friends. Keep those chocolate goodies and poinsettias out of reach, sight and smell.
✨ 4. Jingle All the Way: Ensure your pup's collar has an ID tag with updated contact information. With visitors and potential door dashes, it's an extra precaution for their safety.
✨ 5. Winter Wonderland Walks: Embrace the winter wonderland with some lovely walks. Just remember to wipe those adorable paws to prevent any irritation from ice melt.
✨ 6. Santa Paws Presents: If you can’t do it for Christmas, when can you! Spoil your pooch with a thoughtful gift. Whether it's a new toy or a cosy bed, seeing the joy in their eyes is the best gift of all.
✨ 7. Spread Puppy Love: Consider giving back to other furry friends in need. Donate to local animal shelters or volunteer your time. It's the season of giving, after all. 🎅
✨ 8. Revisit training: Teach that all important “Leave it” lesson. Need some help with this? Book in a lesson with me!
✨ 9. Passive calming activities: Do “temperature checks” on their stress buckets and give them lots of opportunity to employ calming activities such as licking, sniffing and chewing.
✨10. Visitor victories: Young people can be very noisy, excitable and unpredictable and this may be difficult for your dog. Try to educate children on safety around dogs (I am a KAD accredited trainer so am here to help!)
Wishing you and your precious pups a tail-wagging, paw-some Christmas filled with love, laughter, and endless cuddles! 🐾
